Pothole roads leads to Socioeconomic impact: Ashwani Joshi

Nawanshahr: Potholed and damaged roads can have a significant impact on the economy.

Renowned social activist Ashwani Joshi said that people who are affected by a bad roads are usually confronted with healthcare cost due to accidents or micro injuries to their vertebrae as well as very often accidental breakage to their vehicles or undue wear and tear reducing vehicle efficiency and value.

This is especially in case of a city with broken roads where on average every citizen going on a road suffers.

Micro injuries on rough or damaged roads go unnoticed while affecting gradually over a period and may cost heavy medical bills.

Breaking of axles of vehicles on pothole roads is seen often.

Capsizing vehicles on damaged roads even take the life of others.

It pertinent to mention that any commercial vehicle to be allowed on the road needs mandatory road worthy checks and certificates.


Similarly any road made or operated under the govt must have the vehicle worthy checks and certificates.

If any road fails to be vehicle worthy, it will cause accidents and dent the economy of the public.
Therefore legislation is required to serve the public purpose when for every inch of road, a variety of taxes are collected from the public.


In case of any loss to any citizen due to a broken road, concerned responsible officials must be penalized to fix the responsibility to better standards.

It’s like a consumer’s right to get defect free roads while they pay the taxes for same.
Every vehicle is made to pay road tax and additional toll tax on special roads called toll roads.
