PATNA: In the auction of the 16th season of the Indian Premier League, three players from Bihar’s Gopalganj have joined the IPL for the first time. Cricketer Mukesh Kumar’s name came first in the auction on Friday. Those who have reached their destination with the pressure of studies and job.
Mukesh Kumar has finally landed an IPL contract, thus fulfilling his father’s dream, as Delhi Capitals secured his services for Rs 5.5 crore in the IPL 2023 Auction. Notably, Mukesh was a net bowler for the Delhi Capitals and has been a consistent performer for Bengal.
Left-arm fast bowler Mukesh Kumar, who played Ranji Trophy for Bengal, has been bought by Delhi Capitals. Mukesh is the son of an auto rickshaw driver. Due to the poor condition of the family, there was pressure of studies and job on him. Even after this he did not give up his interest and worked hard in the sports world.

Mukesh Kumar’s journey has been like this
Mukesh Kumar, a resident of Kakadkund village of Sadar block of Gopalganj, is fond of playing cricket since childhood. Kakadkund used to play cricket in the streets of the village. His uncle Krishnakant Singh used to scold him for spending more time in cricket and less time in studies. Remembering old things, Krishnakant Singh tells that even after refusing Mukesh Kumar, he used to secretly go out to play cricket. The financial condition of the family was not good. That’s why there was always pressure to get a job after being educated, but today his hard work and dedication has proved that where there is a will, there is a way.
There was a long bidding war between Delhi and Punjab Kings for Mukesh, but in the end, Delhi managed to get the player with them. Mukesh Kumar has played in India A team. Along with this, he was also included in the Indian team this year. After joining the India team, Mukesh’s uncle’s eyes were filled with happiness after joining the IPL auction.

Hailing from Gopalgunj in Bihar, Mukesh faced enormous struggles after shifting to Kolkata during the initial years of his playing career. Mukesh, who was also found to be malnourished, had stated that the ex-BCCI president Sourav Ganguly (then CAB chief) arranged for his stay at the Eden Gardens and his diet was also taken care of. Mukesh took 20 wickets at an average of 24.75, ending as Bengal’s leading wicket-taking pacer in the Ranji Trophy.
