Chennai: The Chennai Police have arrested 24 individuals for selling tickets for the Indian Premier League (IPL) match between Chennai Super Kings and Rajasthan Royals in black near the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai’s Chepauk.
The arrests were made on Wednesday, April 12, 2023, ahead of the much-awaited cricket match.
According to reports, the police have seized a total of 62 tickets and cash worth Rs 65,700 from the accused. The arrests were made following an increase in police vigilance in and around MAC Stadium, Pattabiram Gate, Wallajah Road, Bells Road, Victoria Hostel Road, and other areas based on the directions of City Police Commissioner Shankar Jiwal.
The match on April 12 was played between Chennai Super Kings and Rajasthan Royals.
A special team under the Triplicane Police Station Inspector was formed to closely monitor the areas to look for sales of tickets in the black market. Based on a tip-off, the police nabbed 24 people and registered 11 cases against them.
Further investigation is underway.
The Chennai Police have appealed to the public to refrain from buying tickets from unauthorized sellers and to report any illegal ticket sales to the authorities. They have warned that strict action will be taken against anyone found selling tickets in the black market.
The Chennai Super Kings and Rajasthan Royals match is expected to be a closely contested game, and the authorities are taking all measures to ensure the safety and security of the spectators. The police have advised the public to cooperate with the authorities and follow the guidelines and safety protocols to make the event a success.
