Opposition criticizes Bihar govt over illicit liquor production after Motihari tragedy
MOTIHARI: The recent news of the death of 10 people in suspicious circumstances within 24 hours in Motihari, Bihar, has raised questions on the effectiveness of the liquor ban in the state. The deceased were from various police station areas of East Champaran district, and their deaths have been linked to the consumption of illicit liquor. The incident has triggered political rhetoric, and the opposition has criticized the Nitish Kumar-led government for failing to control the production and sale of illicit liquor in the state.
Reacting to the Motihari Hooch Tragedy, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar termed it a sad incident and urged people not to indulge in illegal activities. He assured that the state government is gathering complete information about the incident and will take appropriate action against those found guilty. The Chief Minister also targeted the BJP government at the Center over the issue of opposition unity.
Meanwhile, CM Nitish Kumar visited his ancestral home Bakhtiyarpur for the ongoing caste census. He talked to the media and said that the first phase of caste enumeration work was completed in January, and the second phase is currently underway. He stressed that the census would help in knowing the economic condition of people belonging to different castes. Nitish Kumar also shared that he and his brother were born in Bakhtiyarpur, and he had come with his family members to participate in the census.
