Hyderabad: A recent development has rocked the cricketing world, as an FIR has been lodged against former Indian cricket captain Mohammad Azharuddin, along with two others, for an alleged misappropriation of Rs 3.85 crore in the Hyderabad Cricket Association (HCA). The former president of the association, Azharuddin’s name has surfaced in connection with the misuse of funds, alongside former secretary R Vijay Anandat and former treasurer Surendra Aggarwal.
The accusations revolve around the purported misuse of funds for the acquisition of various equipment, including cricket balls, fire safety gear, gym apparatus, and stadium chairs for the RGIC stadium in Uppal. Specific companies involved in these transactions have also been named in the FIR.
According to the authorities, the case has been registered under several sections including 406, 409, 420, 465, 467, 471, and 120-B, citing offenses related to cheating, forgery, and criminal conspiracy.
The complaint was filed by HCA CEO Sunil Kante Bose, leading to the initiation of a legal process against the former office-bearers. The alleged financial irregularities are believed to have taken place during a period spanning from February 1, 2020, to February 28, 2023.
