PATNA: Former BJP MLA Jawahar Prasad was arrested on the night of 28 April in connection with the communal violence that erupted in Bihar’s Rohtas district on the occasion of Ram Navami. Mohammad Shahnawaz Alam, a resident of Madar Darwaza, was also arrested along with him. The riots broke out in Sasaram on March 31, and a total of 63 people have been arrested in connection with the incident so far. Two accused have also surrendered in court.
According to a press release issued by the Rohtas police, “On the night of April 28, following the non-bailable warrant received from the Hon’ble Court, two accused of this scandal, Mohd. Shahnawaz Alam and Jawahar Prasad, have been arrested.” Jawahar Prasad has been an MLA five times and is considered a prominent figure in the area.

The communal violence in Sasaram on the occasion of Ram Navami saw 38 accused still absconding against whom non-bailable warrants have been issued. Additionally, advertisements are to be served against 12 accused on 29th April. The riots also broke out in Bihar Sharif, including Sasaram city.
