Morbi bridge collapse case: Gujarat HC orders govt to survey all bridges, says-give proper compensation to dead

GANDHINAGAR: In a recent Morbi bridge incident, the Gujarat High Court on Thursday heard the case and ordered the state government to survey all the bridges in the state and submit the report with a certified report on the condition of each. He also directed that ensure they are in ‘proper condition’.

According to news report, the court has said that along with surveying all the bridges in the state, the government will also have to find out whether the bridges are in proper condition or not.

The Gujarat High Court’s observations come days after the Supreme Court directed it to examine the case ‘weekly’ to ensure inquiries identify those guilty of criminal negligence and offer adequate compensation to the families.

The Supreme Court also asked the high court to consider setting up regulatory mechanisms to ensure that such tragic incidents do not happen again.

The government has to prepare a report on the number and condition of bridges in the state and submit it to the High Court.

Apart from this, the court has also reprimanded the government for the compensation given to the dead and injured in the Morbi bridge accident.

The court said that this compensation is very less and the government should give proper compensation to the dead and injured.
