Nitish Kumar and Tejashwi Yadav meet Congress President Kharge amid talks of Opposition unity ahead of 2024 polls

PATNA: Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and his deputy Tejashwi Yadav met Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge on Wednesday in the presence of Rahul Gandhi at Kharge’s residence in New Delhi. The meeting took place amid talks of Opposition unity ahead of the 2024 General Election.

Nitish Kumar arrived in the national capital on Tuesday and is expected to meet several Opposition leaders during his stay. Meanwhile, Tejashwi Yadav is also in Delhi as he appeared before the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Tuesday for questioning in a money-laundering case related to an alleged land-for-jobs scam.

Holding a press conference in the presence of Congress leaders- Gandhi and Kharge, Kumar said he will string to bring all Opposition parties together. We completed the last round talk with Congress, he added.

According to party insiders, Kumar may attempt to meet AAP convenor Arvind Kejriwal, SP chief Akhilesh Yadav and other regional parties’ chiefs.

Kharge has been reaching out to several Opposition leaders in an attempt to forge unity among like-minded parties to take on the BJP in the upcoming election. He has recently spoken to Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin and former Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray, and may have a meeting with top Opposition leaders in the coming weeks.

The meeting between Nitish Kumar, Yadav, and Kharge assumes significance as it comes at a time when the Opposition is trying to put up a united front against the ruling BJP in the 2024 General Election. The leaders may have discussed strategies to counter the BJP and form a strong Opposition alliance ahead of the polls.
