Cayman Islands – Renowned American model Gigi Hadid was arrested and fined earlier this month in the Cayman Islands for cannabis possession, as recently revealed. The 28-year-old supermodel, along with her friend, faced detainment when their luggage was searched upon arrival on a private jet for a vacation on July 10.
Following a court appearance, Hadid and her friend pleaded guilty and paid a fine, but no conviction was recorded. Hadid’s representative stated that the marijuana in question had been legally purchased in New York with a medical license. Furthermore, they highlighted that medical use of marijuana has been legal in Grand Cayman since 2017. The representative emphasized that Hadid’s record remains clear, and she continued to enjoy her time on the island following the incident, as per a statement shared with the PA news agency.
According to the Cayman Islands Customs and Border Control, Hadid and her friend, Leah McCarthy, were arrested for the importation of marijuana and utensils used for its consumption. The agency clarified that the amount involved was small and appeared to be for personal use. The pair was taken to a detention center but was later released on bail, as reported by the local newspaper, the Cayman Marl Road.
Two days after the arrest, Hadid and McCarthy appeared in the Cayman Islands summary court, where they were fined 1,000 Cayman Islands dollars ($1,200; £920). Despite the legal ordeal, Hadid seemed to still enjoy her holiday, sharing photos of her beachside getaway on her Instagram account and assuring her followers that “all’s well that ends well.”
