Outrage as Dutch YouTuber harassed and manhandled in Bengaluru’s Chor Bazaar, culprit apprehended

Bengaluru – A Dutch vlogger and YouTuber had a distressing encounter when he was allegedly harassed and manhandled by a man at the bustling ‘chor bazaar’ in the city market. The incident, captured on video, has since gone viral on social media, sparking outrage and demands for strict punishment against the culprit. Prompt police action led to the arrest of the miscreant.

In the video footage, the YouTuber identified as Pedro Mota can be seen recording his experience in the market when suddenly a man grabs his hand and confronts him for filming. Despite Mota politely greeting the man with a “namaste” and requesting him to let go, the man forcefully pushes him. Startled, Mota quickly leaves the scene.

Sharing the video on his YouTube channel “Madly Rover” on Monday, Mota wrote, “Foreigner traveling in India experiences the thieves market in Bangalore, also known as the Sunday market or chor bazaar. But exploring the area started out on the wrong foot as an angry man attacked me by grabbing and twisting my hand and arm, lunging after me as I tried to escape. After I had some street food, met great local Indian people and haggled for a new buttoned shirt.”

The incident sparked widespread outrage, with people expressing their support for Mota and demanding swift action against the perpetrator, believed to be a local vendor. Responding to a tweet calling for action, the Bangalore police assured that immediate steps had been taken, and the person responsible had been apprehended. They vowed to take strict action against him, emphasizing that such misconduct towards foreign tourists would not be tolerated.

Bengaluru City Police Commissioner B Dayananda took to Twitter, stating, “It’s an old video which has come into circulation now. The person harassing in the video has been identified, traced, and action taken. No scope for such high-handedness in Namma Bangalore against anybody.”

The incident serves as a reminder of the importance of ensuring the safety and security of foreign visitors in India. Such acts of harassment and assault not only tarnish the image of the city but also hinder the tourism industry. The authorities’ swift response in arresting the miscreant sends a strong message that such behavior will be met with severe consequences.

As the video continues to circulate on social media platforms, it has sparked discussions on the need for increased awareness, education, and sensitization to create a safe and welcoming environment for both domestic and international visitors.
